MUNCIE, Ind. – University of Cincinnati women’s basketball saw its three-game winning streak snapped Wednesday with a 75-63 loss to Ball State at Worthen Arena.

With the defeat, the Bearcats dropped to 5-3 on the season, while the Cardinals halted a four-game losing skid to improve to 2-5 on the year.

UC battled back from a 20-point second-half deficit, but was unable to pull closer than 12 late in the fourth quarter as the Cardinals forged ahead to victory.

Junior guard Antoinette Miller (Detroit, Mich./Southfield-Lathrup) led the way on the offensive end for UC with 16 points and six assists. Sophomore forward Andeija Puckett (Griffin, Ga./Griffin) joined Miller in double-figure scoring with a career-best 11 points to go along with five rebounds and a pair of steals. In addition, junior forward Angel Rizor (Zebulon, N.C./East Wake) neared a double-double with nine points and a team-best eight rebounds.

In spite of being hampered by early foul trouble, the Bearcats managed to take a 21-20 advantage into the second quarter. The home team answered with a 10-0 run to begin the following period and continued on to take a 38-26 lead into halftime.

Out of the break, UC struggled to stymie BSU’s momentum as the Cardinals increased their advantage to a game-high 20 points, 53-33, with four minutes remaining the third quarter. Facing adversity, the Bearcats rose to the occasion and ended the period with a 12-4 run to trail 57-45 heading into the final stanza. In the fourth quarter, the Bearcats showed fight, but just couldn’t quite get over the hump of a 12-point deficit, resulting in a 75-63 setback

UC got additional contributions from junior guards Sam Rodgers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East) and Florence Sifa (Bujumbura, Burundi/Jacksonville College) who each scored eight points. As a team, the Bearcats struggled from the field with 39-percent shooting and also missed 12 free throws. The Red & Black did, however, score 28 points in the paint and had its reserves chip in 23 points. In addition, UC dished out 13 assists and grabbed 13 offensive rebounds which it converted into 11 points.
