NASCAR went west for the next series of races.  First stop is Las Vegas. Brad Keselowski was to defend his Atlanta win and go for two straight wins but came up a little short to his Penske teammate Joey Logano. Logano won the Pennzoil 400 for his 22nd career win in the Monster series in the #22 Pennzoil Ford Mustang. This was the defending 2018 Monster Champion’s first win of 2019.  His teammate Brad Keselowski in the #2 Penske Ford stated after the race, he may have raced his teammate Logano a little soft and could have been a “two week in a row” winner.

Kyle Busch was the favorite going into the weekend but ended Sunday very disappointed.  Kyle had won the Gander Outdoor Truck race and the Xfinity race and was hoping for a clean sweep of the Vegas weekend but came in third for the big race, Monster’s Pennzoil 400. Busch had blamed himself for a speeding penalty on pit road that cost him the race.

For the year, Toyota has one win and Ford now has two wins. Chevrolet has not visited victory lane this year and putting more pressure on Chevrolet’s since they had a very dismal season last year. Names like Jimmie Johnson, Chase Elliott, and Austin Dillon are hoping to change that but still not being a factor at this point in the season.
A new change to this past weekend’s race was the new rules package and drivers had to adapt to closer racing especially after restarts.
Next race on the west tour is at IMS Speedway, also known as Phoenix Speedway, for the Ticket Guardian 500 at 3:30 pm, Sunday March 10, 2019.
