Life with out Indianapolis Colts retired quarterback Andrew Luck began in Los Angeles against the Chargers. In a back and forth first quarter, both teams struggled to score until the 2:55 mark when Charger quarterback Phillip Rivers hit Austin Ekeler for a 1 yard strike to put the Chargers up 7-0 after one quarter.
The Colts would march down the field and cut the lead to 7-6 after a miss PAT from Adam Vinatieri. The Colts scored when Andrew Luck replacement Jacoby Brissett hit TY Hilton for a 4 yard score.
The Chargers wasted little time retuning the favor as Rivers would hit Keenan Allen for a 28 yard touchdown strike making it 14-6 Chargers at the 5:58 mark in the 2nd quarter. The Chargers would get the ball back before the half and added a TY Long 40 yard FG for a 17-6 halftime lead.
The Colts would open the 3rd quarter with a 44 yard Vinatieri FG making the score 17-9, but once again the Chargers answered with a 55 yard strike from Phillip Rivers to Austin Ekeler putting the Chargers up 24-9.
The Colts however would not lay down and got a huge run from Marion Mack as he bolted 63 yards for a rushing touchdown and cutting the Charger lead back to a manageable 24-16 score with 7:40 to go in the 3rd quarter.
Indianapolis Colts defense would hold the Chargers for the rest of the second half and giving their offense a chance to battle. They did just that with a 19 yard touchdown pass from Jacoby Bassett to TY Hilton. The Colts went for the 2 point conversion with Marion Mack crossing the goal line for a 24-24 tie with :38 seconds to go.
The game would go into overtime where the Chargers would end any hopes of a Colts comeback when Austin Ekeler would get his 3rd touchdown of the game with a 7 yard touchdown run. The Chargers would prevail 30-24.
Thre Colts’ Jacoby Brissett was a very efficient 21 of 27 for 190 yards and 2 touchdown passes. Running back Marion Mack ran the ball 25 times for 174 yards and a score in a losing effort.
The Colts will next travel to Tennessee for a 1:00pm game next Sunday.
