Illinois Freshman selected to represent the United States
Colorado Springs, Colo. – Illinois Freshman Chatrice White was selected as a member of the USA Basketball Women’s U19 World Championship team on Sunday, as announced by USA Basketball. White is one of 14 on the roster, set to compete in the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship.
Illinois_Fighting_Illini“I was so excited to hear my name called,” White said of making the team. “I think it’s going to be a great opportunity for me as a player and as a person. I’ve always dreamt of playing for USA Basketball, this is a great opportunity.”
The team was selected by the USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team Committee following three days of trials that featured 34 athletes age 19-and-under (born on or after Jan. 1, 1996), May 14-16, at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
“We are so proud of Chatrice that she has earned a spot to represent our country,” Illinois head coach Matt Bollant said. “She has grown so much in one year and it is exciting to think of what she can accomplish in the years to come at Illinois.”
The USA team will regroup for training June 30-July 7 at the USOTC prior to traveling to Alicante, Spain, to compete in a round-robin tournament July 11-13 against U19 national teams from Australia, Canada and Spain prior to arriving in Russia for the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship.
