The Jackson City Tigers are All “A” Regional Champions!! The Tigers mens golf team put in an extraordinary effort this evening to take home the hardware from the 14th All “A” Regional tournament held at Sugar Camp Golf Club. On a beautiful and historic evening for JCS, the competition came down to an exciting and tense final few holes.

The Tigers five-man team posted a cumulative score of 173 which was two shots better than perennial Regional champion and established golf program, Hazard High School, who finished at 175. The other schools who fielded a full team were Owsley County (216); Wolfe County (232); and Lee County (237). Breathitt County and Jenkins had individual players who competed. The Tigers five competing members of Cameron Turner, John Turner, Jr., Albert Turner, Jordan Barnett, and Zach Hollon, and substitute, Josiah Henson, have put in hours and hours of daily practice and work on their games. “These kids have put in the time and effort for success and it is good to see it pay off for them, extremely proud of my team,” said Coach John Turner.

JCS Freshman, Cameron Turner was the individual medalist and regional champion.
Cameron, playing #1 for the Tigers, posted a 39 for his round which was a tie with Hazard #1, Ryan Smith. Turner and Smith decided the title in a playoff after all other competitors had finished. Cameron prevailed in the playoff on the 9th hole in almost total darkness to take the title.  A great show by two fine young men.

Jackson City: (173) Cameron Turner – 39; John Turner – 44; Albert Turner – 44; Jordan Barnett – 46; and Zach Hollon – 48. Hazard: (175) Ryan Smith – 39; Rudy Akemon – 45; Dylan Campbell – 44; Mikee Bates – 49; and Issac Turner – 47. Owsley County: (216) Xander Terry – 61; Keaton Marcum – 56; Trevor Addison – 50; Jonah Dean – 57; and Andrew Noe – 53. Wolfe County: (232) Drew Bush – 50; Brendon Bush – 56; Devan Stone – 62; Kenny Demers – 67; and Hunter Brewer – 64. Lee County: (237) A.J. Warner – 54; I. Coburn – 58; Noah Combs – 64; Austin Bailey – 68; and Kyren White – 61. Breathitt: Nick Correll – 53; Aaron Withrow – 59; and Grant Hamilton – 55. Jenkins: Josh Wright – 53.
The Tigers will compete, both as a team and individually, in the All “A” State Championship on September 11 and 12 at Eagle’s Nest Country Club in Somerset.
