Purdue looking for a great season

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue men’s basketball team is ranked No. 23 in the preseason Associated Press (AP) poll released earlier today.
It marks the first time since the final poll of the 2010-11 season that Purdue has been ranked in the AP poll. The Boilermakers are one of six Big Ten teams listed in the top 25, the most of any league in the country.
The Boilermakers garnered 236 votes to sit in 23rd place, 32 points behind 21st-ranked LSU and No. 22-ranked Baylor. The Boilermakers are 13 points ahead of in-state rival and Crossroads Classic foe Butler.
Purdue will play 10 games against nationally-ranked teams, as non-conference opponents Vanderbilt (No. 18) and Butler (No. 24) are also listed in the top 25, in addition to Big Ten foes Maryland (No. 3), Michigan State (No. 13), Indiana (No. 15), Wisconsin (No. 17) and Michigan (No. 25). Iowa and Old Dominion are among other teams receiving votes.
Purdue returns four starters from last year’s team that finished tied for third in the Big Ten and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2012. Preseason all-Big Ten selection A.J. Hammons highlights a talented frontcourt, while Rapheal Davis anchors a solid perimeter attack. In addition, head coach Matt Painter welcomes a highly-regarded recruiting class that will strengthen Purdue’s attack.
Season, single-game, mini plan and group tickets are now available to the general public by visiting PurdueSports.com or by calling 1.800.49SPORT. The Boilermakers will open the regular season Nov. 13 against North Carolina A&T at Mackey Arena at 7 p.m. ET.
