Louisville hosted #9 Michigan State and stunned the Spartans in overtime, 82-78. Coach Tom Izzo summed things up when he said after the game, “It was a game of inches.” Izzo went on to say after Michigan State had 17 turnovers, ”We just did some things that weren’t good enough to win. It’s a game of inches and we didn’t value the inches. Give them credit, they hit some shots and made some plays. We just made some uncharacteristic ridiculous plays.”
Louisville’s Ryan McMahon had the hot hand from the free throw line and from the field as he scored all seven of his points in the extra session from the foul line to finish with a career-high 24. Highlighting that total was 12-of-13 free throw shooting and four 3-pointers.
The Cardinals Nwora’s clinching free throw followed his 3-pointer with 2:05 left that gave the Cardinals (4-2) the lead for good in the ACC/BigTen Challenge.
Louisville’s Dwayne Sutton and Christen Cunningham each had 13 points for the Cardinals, who won despite getting outrebounded 47-30.
Kyle Ahrens had 15 points for Michigan State while starting in place of injured senior guard Matt McQuaid, The Spartan’s Nick Ward had 14 points and Kenny Goins grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds.
