It was another successful Big Blue Madness tonight as the Wildcat faithful got their first look at the 2019-20 Men’s and Women’s basketball teams. The event acts as a green flag to start the basketball season. As an added bonus for the fans UK brought the Blue Carpet event inside to allow more fans to experience the fun of seeing the current and former Wildcats. Hundreds attended the pregame event just to catch a glimpse of the players.

Once inside of Rupp Arena the upper arena got to enjoy chair back seats for the first time. In my opinion, the new seats were worth the loss of capacity in the arena. It gave the upper section a much-needed facelift and also added much needed leg room for attendees.

There’s not a whole lot to say about an event like BBM. It’s a show. It’s meant to entertain, not inform. However, I will give a few of my observations and opinions.-The Women’s basketball team’s introduction video was entertaining. It was a flashback of all the past dance performances by Mathew Mitchell. Tonight, he performed to Old Town Road complete with western wear attire.

As for the women’s team, Keep an eye on Chasity Patterson. She is a great shooter and will provide some offense this year. The cheerleaders are once again amazing. What a dynasty.

As for the men’s team, John Calipari’s speech is a sales pitch to the dozen recruits in attendance and it’s a good one. Calipari takes a dig at Duke during his speech saying, “Some teams say we take care of our players for life. (Duke) Here we teach our players to take care of themselves.” Immanuel Quickley showed he’s not only the best shooter, by winning his second in a row three-point competition, but also the best dancer on the team. Tyrese Maxey can dunk. He won the Slam Dunk competition and had a great between the legs dunk.

There was not much to take from the scrimmage, but Nick Richards looks more mobile than the past two years and BBN will love Nate Sestina like they loved Reid Travis last year. The Cats take the court next Friday at the Blue/White game.

Get ready BBN it’s basketball season!
