The realization that the season is winding down occurs after Martinsville’s fall race. The end of the season is near. Not long for any driver to get any “payback” on any unnecessary roughness applied during the First Data 500 at the 1/2 mile short track.
The race should have been renamed Martin “Truex Jr.”-ville after MTJ swept all 3 stages and secured a spot to the final four at Miami-Homestead, last race of the year.
William Bryon’s 24 Hendrick Chevy came in second and Brad Keselowski’s 2 Ford Penske came in 3rd. Chase contender Denny Hamlin’s Gibbs Toyota Fed-Ex 11 came in forth but actions after the race made the headlines as rival and Monster Chase contender #22 Penske Pennziol Penske Ford Joey Logano came over and cat slapped Hamlin which made their pitcrews intervene between them. This resulted in Logano called to “the hauler” to see officials afterwards and Dave Nicholas Jr of Logano’ pit crew to be suspended for the next race. Hamlin and Logano have had a fued for years after Logano wrecked Hamlin at California Speedway resulting in Denny getting a broken back, which Joey was very unapologetic. Logano stated Hamlin races him in the wall toward the end of the race having the 22 car finished eighth.
Other penalties handed out after the race was for lug nut violations according to NBCSports each $10,000 each for the 24, 18, 12, and 17 teams.
Sad news as Nascar series driver Matt Tiff was sidelined the rest of the year after having a seizure before the Martinsville race. Tiff had a brain tumor removed in 2016. God speed and prayers for Mr. Tiff. John Hunter Nemechek will replace him for the rest of this year.
