After the dust settled in the, next to last race of the year, no high tempers for the desert race. Just tears as the Bluegreen Vacations 500 at ISM/Phoenix Speedway as four more drivers fell to the round of elimination. Much speculation that there could be a fight or two after the race.
The 4 drivers that exited were #22 Penske Ford Joey Logano; #42 Chevy Chip Ganassi Kyle Larson; #12 Penske Ford Ryan Blaney; and #9 Hendrick Chevy Chase Elliott. Logano went in with a cushy 20 point lead over rival Denny Hamlin. A couple weeks ago,Logano picked a fight with Denny Hamlin at Martinsville’s post race. Denny had to win and hope for bad luck for the 22 team. Hamlin spoiled Logano’s hope to compete in the championship race.
Denny’s wish came true as he was the winner at the Phoniex race securing him a spot at Miami/Homestead for a spot in the final four for a chance to win the NASCAR championship. Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, and Martin Truex Jr along with Hamlin are the top four cars of the year. What is very noteworthy is Joe Gibbs (Team Gibbs) will have a 75% chance of winning the Monster championship as Team Gibbs Toyota is 3 or the 4 cars. The fourth car is Stewart-Haas #4 Ford Kevin Harvick.
For another year, Chevrolet does not have a car to complete for the championship. Most Chevy drivers are young while the older ones have retired like Jeff Gordon or fixing to retire like Jimmie Johnson.
