The Wildcats defeated the Tigers in the opening game of Kentucky’s SEC Conference schedule. The victory gave the Cats a 13-1 record over the Tigers, and pushes their unbeaten streak against Missouri at Rupp Arena to 7 wins.

The 71 to 59 victory was tightly contested in the first half, and if it wasn’t for Nick Richards the game may have went in Missouri’s favor. Richard’s scored 14 of UK’s first 16 points when the Cats were having trouble scoring. He ended the half with 17 points and 8 rebounds as the Wildcats took a 31 to 26-point lead into the locker room.

The second half belonged to Immanuel Quickley who scored 17 second half points while knocking down 4 of 8 three-pointers. He also made all nine of his free-throw attempts. Quickley ended the game as the scoring leader with 23 points. Nick Richards had another double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds.

Even though the Cats struggled shooting the ball, their defense was impressive. They held a SEC team to only 59 total points and only allowed the Tigers to shoot 36%. The Wildcats also had 8 blocks and forced 11 turnovers.

Kentucky looks as if they are starting to hit their stride at the beginning of conference schedule. The victory tonight and the previous win against Louisville are very encouraging. Let’s hope that the trend continues on Saturday when the Wildcats travel to Georgia to face the Bulldogs in a noon tipoff.
