Wildcats add Oney from portal, will be eligible in 2026
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky Softball team and head coach Rachel Lawson announced the signing of outfielder Reaghan Oney on Wednesday afternoon, as the former Miss Kentucky Softball will transfer to UK after one season at Troy University in Alabama.
A native of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, Oney joins Kentucky after being an everyday starter for the Trojans in her freshman season, where she hit .321 in 48 games with 10 extra-base hits including half a dozen doubles, two triples and a pair of home runs. She scored 17 runs, registered 36 hits and worked five walks on the season while sporting a .961 fielding percentage in RF.
“The first things that immediately stand out about Reaghan are her passion for the game and her love of the Big Blue Nation,” UK head coach Rachel Lawson said, who will enter her 19th year in 2026 leading the softball program. “Reaghan’s mindset, work ethic and talents are exactly what we are looking for as we complete our roster.”
Oney attended Montgomery County High School in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, where she ended her career with 69 home runs, 255 RBI and 301 hits as she was crowned Miss Kentucky Softball while doing do. She set the Kentucky state record for most home runs in a season (24) and most consecutive games with a home run (7) in her senior season.
“I have always lived and played by the same motto,” Oney said about signing at Kentucky. “God first, family second and the rest will fall into place. Hometown, homegrown!”
She was named the winner of several softball awards including the prestigious Johnny Bench Award, All-State, All-Region and was named the 10th Region Tournament MVP in her senior year. Oney also played basketball in high school and is majoring in exercise science.
