LOUISVILLE, Ky. – No. 8 seed Detroit City FC upset top-seeded Louisville City FC 1-0 in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals of the 2025 USL Championship Playoffs presented by Terminix — marking Le Rouge’s first-ever win at Lynn Family Stadium.
In the 34th minute, Detroit captain Devon Amoo-Mensah slipped to the back post on a corner kick and redirected a Jay Chapman header past Golden Glove winner Damian Las. It was Detroit’s only shot on goal — and the game’s only goal.
Louisville finished the night with 16 shots to Detroit’s three, holding nearly 60 percent possession and earning nine corners. Brian Ownby led LouCity with four shots, including a dangerous header in the 62nd minute that was denied by Detroit goalkeeper Carlos Saldaña with a full-stretch save.
Despite the pressure, Detroit’s defense held firm to complete its second upset of a No. 1 seed in an Eastern Conference Quarterfinal in three years, ending Louisville’s record-setting 2025 campaign — one that featured a league-best 2.43 points per game, just one loss in 30 regular-season matches, and a defense that allowed fewer than 0.70 goals per game.
