UK took advantage of #9 Alabama’s poor shooting and sloppy play in the first half by hanging in the game by trailing by 3, 35-32. The problem is Kentucky shot even worse. Alabama shot 9-16 from two point range but hit only 5 of 16 from three point land while UK shot 6 of 19 from 2 point range but did hit 3 of 5 from downtown. The difference in the first half was free throws. Alabama only shot 2 free throws, hitting them both. UK hit 11 of 13. Alabama placed 7 players in scoring led by Primo with 10 points. The Cats also had 7 players score. Askew continued his cold shooting missing his only shot in 9 minutes of play.

UK got off to a good start in the 2nd half tying the game at 36 on a Sarr dunk at the 16:59 mark before Alabama jumped back up on 2 Shackleford free throws. Alabama jumped back in the lead 41-38 before Allen hit his 3rd trey of the game. Allen then blocked a shot that led to a Sarr dunk and UK eased ahead 43-41.

UK would take their last lead 54-52 at the 4:27 mark. That is when the wheels came off and Alabama would go up 62-54 before Allen would hit his 4th three pointer with :40 seconds to play. Alabama hit their free throws down the stretch to secure the win 70-59.

The loss has put UK in a huge hole with a 5-10 record, by far the worst in the UK/Calipari era. It is abundantly clear the only way UK will make the NCAA tournament is to win the SEC Tournament. At this point, even a NIT bid is a pipe dream. For BBN, things can only improve.
