Lexington, KY – Since Coach Mark Stoops took over UK Football in 2013, only 2 UK teams have averaged over 200 yards a game passing. Those came in back to back seasons with QB Patrick Towles in 2014 (231.2 Yards per game) and 2015 (209.3 yards per game). It has been 5 straight seasons with UK throwing under 200 yards per game including back to back seasons in 2019 & 2020 barely cracking 100 yards passing per game.

So far after 2 games, UK has an offense that has been exciting to watch and is as balanced as you would want with a rushing attack averaging 238.5 yards per game and 299 yards per game passing. These numbers, if sustained throughout the season would be the best since Stoops became head coach, BUT ……. UK has a tough stretch of games coming up that should challenge their offense. These games include home contests vs Florida, then LSU, road games against Georgia and Mississippi State then back home vs Tennessee, Each of these games should give the Wildcats a true test. That makes the upcoming game Saturday, with the Chattanooga Mocs, an important time to work on fixing some of the issues that were present against Missouri this past Saturday. Kentucky will also travel to South Carolina next Saturday before they run the gauntlet of SEC power houses.

Here is a look at UK’s TD distribution since Mark Stoops took over.

Year       Passing TD – INT     Rushing TD  Passing Yds Per GM   Rushing Yds Per GM
2013            14   –  6                 15                   193.4                             147.9
2014            14   – 11                21                   231.2                             153.2
2015            10  –  16                22                   209.3                             162.7
2016            17  –  12                30                   186.1                              234.2
2017            10  –   7                 26                   188.1                              161.7
2018            14  –  10                27                   161.4                              202.0
2019              9  –   8                 36                   113.6                              279.1
2020              7  –   5                 19                   121.4                              196.8
2021*           30  –  12                36                   299.0                              238.5 (Estimate for 12 gm)

History shows that UK probably won’t sustain such lofty numbers on offense especially with the games coming up after tomorrows Chattanooga contest. One thing that looks like it will be a banner year is touchdown passes which Kentucky has only had 16 total the past 2 years. Will Levis is only 2 touchdowns from all of last years total of 7 td passes. If nothing else, UK will be fun to watch on offense.
