Samantha Guider pitches shutout in Game 1 and Mikayla Lewin hit two two-run homeruns in Game 2 for the sweep

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Game 1 Final: Florida Tech 7, Flagler 0
Game 2 Final: Florida Tech 4, Flagler 2
Records: Florida Tech (10-5, 2-1 SSC) | Flagler (9-7, 0-0 PBC)
Location: Flagler Field | St. Augustine, Fla.   
STATS OF GAME ONE:

  • Panthers got off to a quick start putting two on the board in the top of the 1st. Leadoff Mikayla Wessel singled to left field followed by an out of the park two-run homerun by Cheyenne Nelson.
  • Tech broke the game open with a five run sixth, starting with a bases loaded error scoring Peyton Anders. Nelson and Chloe French each recorded a two RBI single.
  • First baseman Victoria Szrom doubled off a runner in the bottom of the 7th to secure the 7-0 victory.
  • Samantha Guider got the start in the circle and retired 15 out of the first 17 hitters as the Saints got their first baserunner in the 1st inning on their first hitter and then did not see another until the bottom of the 6th.
  • Guider moves to 5-3 on the season, giving up five hits while striking out five Saints en route to her first shutout of the year.

 STATS OF GAME TWO:

  • Mikayla Lewin blasted two two-run homeruns to give the Panthers all four runs of the game. First was in the 4th inning and second in the 6th inning.
  • Saints two runs came in the bottom of the 7th off a bases loaded hit by pitch followed by a fielder’s choice RBI.
  • Kelsie Rivers, 3-1, earned the win allowing only two hits and one walk on two strikeouts over five innings of work.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Panthers move to 15-17 all-time against Flagler. The last meeting between these teams was a split doubleheader on Feb. 25, 2020
  • Guiders complete game shutout in Game 1 was her first of the season and second of her career as a Panther.
  • Nelson’s homerun was her first of the season and third of her career.
  • Lewin’s two homeruns is the most in a game since Vanessa Rubio on 2/14/20 vs Florida Southern. 

 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech returns to action on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. for their home opener against #13 Tampa at Nancy Bottge Field.
