first-place Cardinals and Game 3 (0-2) of a 6-game homestand that features
tomorrow’s off day followed by a 3-game rematch vs the Padres…following
this homestand the Redlegs hit the road again for a 7-day, 6-game road trip
to Col’s Coors Field (3g) and Mil’s American Family Field (off day, 3g)…on
their previous road trip the Reds went 0-7 (0-4 at LAD, 0-3 at SD), including
their first 4-game series sweep loss to the Dodgers since April 1975 and
their second consecutive series sweep loss at Petco Park…was Cin’s first
winless road trip of at least 7 games since 6/7-6/14, 2004 (0-3 at Oak, 0-3
at Cle, 0-1 at Phi).

SERIES NOTES: The Reds haven’t been swept by the Cardinals at Great
American Ball Park since 4/12-4/15, 2018 (4g)…with a 10-9 record,
last season the Reds produced their first winning season series vs the
Cardinals since 2011 (9-6)…the Reds’ 6-game winning streak from 6/3-
7/24 of last season was their longest winning streak vs the Cardinals since
a 6-game winning streak from 5/5-5/14, 2003…went 7-8-3 in their previous
18 series vs StL, including 3-3 in 6 series last season…from 6/3-6/7, the
Reds earned their first 4-game sweep in St. Louis since 5/4-5/7, 1990…
Joey Votto has 212 apps and 224 career hits vs StL, both the most among
active players (224-739, .303/.422/.513, .935ops)…in the live ball era, his
career .422 OBP vs StL ranks third among all players with at least 500 plate
apps (Lefty O’Doul .477, Ralph Kiner .424).

PADRES UP NEXT: Over the last 2 seasons, the Reds are 1-9 vs SD and
lost 2 of the 3 games played here last season…beginning in 2013 are 8-21
at Petco Park and lost their last 8 games there dating back to a 4-2 win
on 4/20/19…the Padres swept the last 2 series in San Diego, including last
week’s 3-game set…in the 2021 trip to Petco, from 6/17-6/20, the Padres
earned their first ever 4-game series sweep vs the Reds.

LEADING OFF: The Reds haven’t held a lead through the end of a full inning
since their 6-3 win on 4/10 at Atl (11g, 99 innings), including 6-game and
54-inning streaks from 4/12-4/17 (2g vs Cle, 4g at LAD) in which they never
held the lead at any point in a game…the Reds went 6 straight games
without holding a lead at any point in any game for the third time since 2006
(2018, 2019)…courtesy @EliasSports.

GOOD CHANCE FOR A HOMER TODAY…: Neither team has homered
in this series after the Indians and Reds produced 9 HR in the first series
here…only twice in Great American Ball Park history were there streaks
of 3 straight games without a home run by either team: 7/25-7/27, 2014 vs
Wsh and 9/5 vs Det & 9/17-9/18 vs LAD, 2021.

OPENING DAYS: The Reds participated in 3 Opening Day games, including
a 6-3 win at Atl to begin the championship season, a 10-5 loss in the home
opener on 4/12 vs Cle and a 9-3 loss on 4/14 at LAD…for only the third
time since 1890, the Redlegs opened a regular season on the road…the
Reds suffered a season-opening 4-3 loss at Phi on April 15, 1966 after the
scheduled 3-game series vs Mets at Crosley Field was rained out…the wireto-wire 1990 World Series champion Reds opened that season with an 8-4
win at Hou on April 9 after spring training was delayed by a 32-day lockout.

YOUNG GUNS: The Reds’ Opening Day roster included 3 pitchers with
0.000 days of service time (relievers RHP Alexis Diaz & RHP Daniel Duarte,
starter RHP Hunter Greene) and 9 pitchers with less than 1.000 year
of service time…a fourth pitcher with no service time, LHP Nick Lodolo,
replaced Duarte when Lodolo was promoted to start on 4/12 vs Cle…in LHP
Reiver Sanmartin (Game 2, 3rd Major League start), Greene (Game 4, ML
debut) and Lodolo (Game 6, ML debut), the Reds used as many as 3 rookie
starting pitchers in the first 6 games of a season for only the second time
in their history…the 1902 Reds staff used 3 rookie starting pitchers in their
first 5 games, and 4 of their first 6 games that season were started by rookie
pitchers…courtesy @EliasSports.

• RHP Luis Castillo (right shoulder strain) threw 20 pitches in a
live batting practice on Fri at Dodger Stadium and 35 pitches

Dayton vs West Michigan.

season with 8 players on the injured list, their highest total to
begin a season since they began the 2014 campaign with 8
