MOREHEAD, KY —The Morehead State women’s basketball team fought back from a 42-39 deficit after the third quarter to beat the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles 70-68 at home Thursday.

The Eagles had two players score in double figures, led by Sandra Lin, who posted a career-high 22 points and five assists. Veronica Charles tacked on a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds and Hallie Rhodes added eight points.

Morehead State out-rebounded Tennessee Tech 38-29 in Thursday’s game, led by Charles’ 10 boards. The Eagles also pulled down 14 offensive rebounds and scored 17 second chance points.

The Eagles travel to Evansville, Ind. Saturday to take on Southern Indiana. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 PM.

How It Happened

Morehead State kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 14-11.

Morehead State kept the Golden Eagles from increasing their lead before going on a 5-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Charles, to take a 28-26 lead, a score that would hold until halftime. Morehead State scored four of its 17 total points in the period on second chance opportunities created by pulling down three offensive rebounds.

Tennessee Tech then took a 35-31 lead following intermission before Morehead State went on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Rhodes, to grab a 37-35 lead with 3:47 to go in the third. Tennessee Tech responded to seize a 42-39 lead entering the fourth quarter. Morehead State played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 11 points in the paint.

Tennessee Tech kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 44-39 advantage before Morehead State went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Tolisha Walker’s layup, to seize a 45-44 lead with 8:14 to go in the contest. The Eagles kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 70-68 win. Morehead State pulled down seven offensive rebounds to score nine second chance points out of 31 total in the period
