LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville softball team defeated Notre Dame 6-2 in the series finale Saturday afternoon at Ulmer Stadium.

UofL (25-12, 10-4 ACC) trailed early, but a pair of timely pinch hits by Makayla Hurst and Maddi Grant along with Korbe Otis’ second-straight 4-for-4 performance helped Louisville overcome the deficit and surge to a 6-2 win. Madison ‘Pickle’ Winkler also went 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs to help lead the Cardinals at the plate.

Alyssa Zabala (12-5) earned the win, allowing two earned runs on seven hits and striking out two in 5.1 innings of work. Taylor Roby picked up her second save of the season, after giving up only one hit and delivering one strikeout in 1.2 innings of relief.

Notre Dame (24-11, 7-7-1 ACC)) jumped to a 1-0 lead in the second behind Mickey Winchell’s RBI single.

Louisville countered in the third inning when Otis tripled and sored on an RBI single by Easton Lotus.

The Cardinals kept the momentum going in the fourth inning, using six hits to score four runs – all with two outs. Hannah File delivered a one-out hit and came around to score on Hurst’s pinch hit single to put UofL on top. After a hit by Winkler put two runners on, Grant stepped up to the plate and sent the first pitch she saw to shallow left field to plate two more runs. Otis capped the third inning with an RBI double.

The Irish added another run courtesy of Karina Gaskins’ solo homer in the fifth, but the Cards got the run back in the sixth after Winkler connected on her second hit of the game and crossed the plate on Otis’ RBI single for the 6-2 final.

Payton Tidd (11-6) took the loss after surrendering five earned runs on nine hits and striking out one in 3.2 innings. Gaskins went 2-for-4 and Macie Eck went 3-for-3 to lead the Irish at the plate.
