Well, it is the “Dog Days” of summer as the calendar turned to August. The Reds who had a minimal hold on first place in July have seen August bring them back to the pack and fans are starting to worry. The Reds who dropped out of first place have now dropped out of the last spot for the Wild Card. The Reds are a incredibly bad 1 and 7 since August 1st.

Since the All Star break, the Reds lost 6 in a row, then followed that up winning 5 in a row to right the ship. That didn’t last long as they then would go 4-3 before the calendar turned. Since July 9th, the Reds are 10-16. The rest of August does look good for the Reds as they 4 teams at or below .500.

The Reds lost 2 of 3 to the Marlins, a team hot on their heals for a playoff spot. They next travel to Pittsburgh who have a 51-62 record. They then return home for 2 games against the 55-59 Guardians. From there it is 3 more at home against the 64-51 Bluejays. Then it is back on the road on a West Coast trip to play the Angels who currently have a 57-58 record. They then travel to the desert to play Arizona who sits at 57-57. Finally to close out August, the Reds travel to San Francisco who are 62-52.

The Reds have plenty of time to get back on track with the rest of August and all of September left to play. Cincinnati just need to have another hot streak and the schedule is ripe for the taking now through the end of August.
