Pregame Atmosphere

On a cold and dreary Friday night in Lexington, the Kentucky Wildcats did their best to warm things up for all in attendance.

First Half

A change to Coach Pope’s lineup featured Kam Williams and Malchi Moreno and it provided some early returns. Moreno was nearly unstoppable underneath the basket scoring some early buckets and some good early defense.  Two drives to the basket by Otega Oweh and some early hot shooting by Collin Chandler got the Cats off to a quick start.

Cat fans have been clamoring to see Malachi Moreno in the starting line up and it paid off in the first half with a crowd pleasing dunk at the 18:33 mark of the first half.  Loyola Maryland just could not keep up offensively with the Cats pace and could not provide much in the way of defense.

At the end of the first half, the Cats were firmly in control by a score of 50-20.

Second Half

The second half saw UK get 8 straight points with 3 straight dunks by Oweh, Chandler, and Williams.  Denzel Aberdeen capped off the scoring streak with a jumper in the paint.    The Greyhounds could not cut into their halftime deficit.  UK’s athleticism and ability to score on the fast break and in the paint proved too much to handle.  Kentucky got a whopping 52 points in the paint for 59% of their total paints.  Overall a much needed feel good win for Pope and the Cats.

Who do the Cats play next?

Next up for UK are the Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech on Wednesday, November 26 at 7:00.
