DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The Daytona Tortugas completed their first six-game sweep of the season with an 8-3 victory over the Bradenton Marauders on Sunday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
Jirvin Morillo drove in a season-high three runs and Adolfo Sanchez launched his first Single-A home run as Daytona secured its ninth consecutive home victory.
The Rundown
Bradenton struck first against Justin Henschel in the opening inning. Wyatt Sanford walked and Antonio Pimentel singled him to third before Richard Ramirez grounded into a double play, allowing Sanford to score.
Daytona answered with two runs in the second. Ichiro Cano and Anielson Buten opened the inning with consecutive singles before an error loaded the bases. Steele Hall worked a two-out walk to force home Cano, and Morillo followed with an infield single that scored Buten for a 2-1 lead.
After Bradenton tied the game in the third on Ramirez’s RBI double, Sanchez immediately restored Daytona’s advantage by leading off the bottom half with a solo home run to right. The blast was his first at the Single-A level and put the Tortugas ahead for good, 3-2.
Daytona capitalized on two Bradenton errors to add three runs in the fourth. Henry Hunter reached on an error before Hall singled and advanced to second on another throwing miscue. Morillo then drove a two-run double down the right-field line, and Arnaldo Lantigua followed with a single. Morillo scored when Sanchez grounded into a double play, extending the lead to 6-2.
Dominic Scheffler stranded two inherited runners in the fourth and provided 3.1 strong innings of relief. Bradenton’s only run against him came on Brent Iredale’s solo homer in the sixth, and Scheffler responded by retiring three of the next four hitters.
The Tortugas added two insurance runs in the sixth without recording an RBI. Three walks and three wild pitches allowed Lantigua and Sanchez to score, pushing the advantage to 8-3.
Lisnerkin Lantigua retired all six batters he faced across the final two innings. Bradenton placed only one runner aboard over the last three frames as Daytona completed the sweep with its sixth consecutive victory.
