The Wildcats won all but one event, including five event sweeps

LEXINGTON, Ky. – After sweeping five events and taking the top two spots in five additional races, the University of Kentucky men’s swimming and diving team rolled past Miami Ohio, 191-102, on Friday night at the Lancaster Aquatic Center.

Following the win, the Wildcats improve to 1-1 on the dual meet season while the RedHawks begin their year at 0-1.

“We’re happy with the win. It was nice to see the freshmen step up and pick up some wins, which makes us excited about our future,” said head coach Lars Jorgensen. “We swam against a really good and well-coached MAC team, and our guys stepped up to the challenge and swam well today.”

Mason Wilby (23.07), Kyle Barker (25.19), Victor Martin Roig (22.28), and Max Berg (19.91) set the tone for the meet right from the start, winning the 200 medley by over two seconds in 1:30.45.

The first Wildcat sweep came in the 1000 free from Nick Caruso (9:15.05), Adam Rosipal (9:16.91), and Zane Rosely (9:25.13). Jakob Clark led the charge in the 500 free in a time of 4:28.65, followed by Caruso (4:31.01) and Rosipal (4:32.02).

100 fly (49.71) winner Wilby was also victorious in the 200 fly in 1:48.80, leading another UK sweep as Zane Rosely (1:50.77) took second and Cooper Drouillard (1:51.12) placed third. Jackson Mussler got his hand to the wall the quickest in the 200 back in 1:47.62, followed closely by Wilby (1:48.91) and Hamilton (1:50.29).

Clark also claimed the 200 free in 1:38.28 to match his 500 free win with Roig taking second in 1:40.07. Roig was the runner-up in the 100 free with a time of 45.31 behind Berg’s winning time of 44.68, and Berg also won the 50 free in 20.45.

Henry Miller swept the breaststroke events, winning both the 100 (57.05) and 200 (2:02.83). Timothy Ellett took second in the 100 breast (57.79) and Barker was the runner-up in the 200 breast (2:03.00). Barker won both the 100 back (49.15) and 400 IM (3:55.83), while Ellett (4:00.75) and Rosely (4:01.08) made the latter event another UK sweep to conclude the meet.

“It was a good win coming after a loss, and it was great to see some of the freshmen step up in a big way,” said Wilby. “It’ll be nice to have two straight weeks of training with no interruptions before we face Auburn and NC State.”

Kentucky women’s swimming and diving has its home opener on Friday, Oct. 15 at 5 p.m. ET against Ohio, which will serve as the Southeastern Conference championship banner reveal meet. Both the men’s and women’s teams then hit the road to face Auburn and NC State in a tri-meet hosted by the Tigers on Oct. 22-23.
