Unbeaten superstar Hoosier Philly has trainer Tom Amoss seeing visions of lilies or roses dancing in his head this holiday season. The daughter of Into Mischief out of a Tapit mare has cruised to victory effortlessly in all three of her starts, earning more than $400,000 dollars. Amoss, who won the 2019 Kentucky Oaks with Serengetti Empress, said she will get a freshening in Ocala, Florida, and likely return to racing in the Rachel Alexandra at Fair Grounds in New Orleans on February 18th.

However, because he describes her as the best horse he has ever had in his barn, he has not ruled out a Kentucky Derby Trail schedule for Hoosier Philly. That decision certainly will not be made in 2022, and perhaps not until she has a start back in February.

Amoss is a savvy horseman and the owners,  Gold Standard Racing,  are not novices in the game. It is my humble opinion that she would be best served by staying on the Kentucky Oaks path. And, if she does and stays healthy, she will be the prohibitive favorite when the gates open the first Friday in May.

Hoosier Philly won the Grade II $400,000 Golden Rod at Churchill Downs on Saturday by open lengths. She earned ten 2023 Kentucky Oaks points for the victory.  All three of her career starts and victories have come over the Churchill surface with Jockey Edgar Morales up.
