Expansion series’ riders dominate, logging 15 qualified rides in opening round of the PBR Lexington Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. – As a raucous crowd watched on Friday night in Lexington, Kentucky, inside the iconic Rupp Arena, Brandon Davis (Cabot, Arkansas) and Carlos Gomes Junior (Carmo de Minas, Brazil) tied for the Round 1 victory at the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour’s Lexington Invitational.

Davis and Gomes headlined on a night of competition where 15 riders delivered qualified rides.

Both delivering 87.5-point scores, Davis rode Shortcut (Richardson Land & Cattle Co.), while Gomes covered Next Question (UTC/Sellers Bucking Bulls).

Each rider netted 23 Velocity Global points for the 8-second effort.

Third was Hunter Ball (Carsonville, Michigan).

Ball conquered Light It Up (Nothin’ But Try Ranch/Kinser/McCall) for 87 points to garner 17 Velocity Global points.

Canadian young gun Weston Davidson (Strongfield, Saskatchewan) parlayed an 86-point trip atop Tarz (Kevin Foreman Bucking Bulls) into a fourth-place finish in the round.

Davidson’s first score on American soil earned him 16 Velocity Global points.

Rounding out the Top 5 in a tie for fifth was Leonardo Lima (Vale do Paraiso, Brazil) and Brandon Ballard (New Hope, Kentucky), both marked 85.5 points.

Lima took Little Bill (Lightning Livestock) to the whistle, while Ballard outlasted War Dog (JQH Bucking Bulls/Skip & Elaine Jones).

Both Lima and Ballard collected 14.5 Velocity Global points.

Action for the PBR Lexington Invitational will conclude with Round 2 and the championship round on Saturday, Jan. 7. Action gets underway at 7 p.m. EST.
