You couldn’t have scripted the season Breathitt County has endured. From a devastating flood, to the death of their coach, legendary B.B. King to losing their replacement coach Arch Johnson and finally having their football Coach, Kyle Moore having to take over the coaching reigns. Breathitt has been through it all. The Bobcats made it to the State Tournament on the strength of a District & Region run that saw them hitting their stride and fulfilling expectations placed upon them.

Breathitt opened the game with a 12-5 lead over Louisville Male from the 7th Region after hitting a couple three pointers by Luke Bellamy, then Louisville Male woke up. Male started the game 0-4 from deep range, then started showing just how good of a shooting team they had eventually going 9-14 from deep. Male would go on a 15-2 run to take a 20-14 lead after one quarter.

Breathitt would turn the ball over 13 times in the first half and resulted in a 34-13 second quarter advantage giving them a 54-27 halftime lead. To put the Louisville Male Bulldog run in perspective, the Bulldogs went on a 49-15 run after trailing 12-5 midway through the 1st quarter.

Breathitt would not quit in the 3rd quarter and played with Male staying within 4 points 17-13 for the quarter. At the end of 3 quarters Louisville Male led 71-40. Turnovers continued to plague Breathitt as they committed 4 more in the 3rd quarter. The highlight of the third quarter saw Austin Sperry with a steal and slamming it home.

The final period saw both teams empty their benches out giving several players a chance to play on the floor of Rupp Arena, something they may never get a chance at again. Despite everything that has happened to Breathitt County, they made a good showing on the grandest stage.
