RICHMOND, Ky. – Playing in his hometown, on his home field, Eastern Kentucky University shortstop Logan Thomason recorded his 200th career hit on a second inning grand slam that propelled the Colonels to a 10-6 win over Morehead State University on Tuesday.
Thomason stepped to the plate in the bottom of the second inning with EKU leading 2-1, the bases juiced and 199 hits for his career. The senior sent a 1-1 pitch over the wall in left center for a 6-1 lead.
The Eagles (13-11) cut their deficit to two with three runs in the top of the third. Nick Gooden capped it with a two-run single through the left side. That’s as close as Morehead State would get.
A couple of sacrifice flies and an error in the bottom of the fourth allowed the Colonels (9-15) to bring home three runs and expand their lead to 9-4.
Thomason finished 1-for-2 with two runs and five RBIs. Charlie Ludwick, who hit a first inning two-run home run, had a 2-for-4 night with two runs and two RBIs.
Gooden went 1-for-4 with a run and two RBIs for the Eagles.
