Owsley Falls to Bowling Green 46-44 in opening game of Girls Sweet 16.

The opening rung of the Girls Sweet 16 is over and 4th Region representative is the winner over 14th Region representative Owsley County.

Owsley County fell behind 4-0 early as Bowling Green hit a shot and 2 free throw. Owsley would then get their legs under them and reel off 16 straight points to end the quarter with a 16-4 lead. Bowling Green would go 5 minutes and 34 seconds with our a point and a ridiculous 7 minutes and 24 seconds with out a field goal.

Owsley would open up a 22-7 lead at the 3:35 mark of the second quarter. Owsley would not score again in the half and Bowling Green would cut the lead to 9 points at 22-13 halftime score.

To start the 3rd quarter, the Lady Owls would go another 2 minute and 37 seconds before finally hitting a 3 pointer to push the lead back to 9 at 25-16. In all Owsley would go 6 minutes and 12 seconds without a point and a chance to blow the game wide open. Instead, Bowling Green would outscore the Lady Owls 13-7 in the quarter to cut the Owsley lead to 26-29.

In the 4th and final quarter, it didn’t take long for Bowling Green to take over as they took a 30-29 lead at the 7:01 mark in the final quarter. They would build their lead up to 37-32 at the 4:57 mark. The game would stay close the rest of the way with Bowling green hanging on to a 46-44 win. Bowling Green outscored the Lady Owls 30-10 in between each teams larges lead. Owsley County is to be commended on the tough play and never quit mentality. Below are complete stats provided by KHSAA
