Sacred Heart defeats Bullitt East for Girls Title 3.12.22 – Jared Hatton

Here we are after along week of dribbling, shots, fouls, and everything in between we are down to Sacred Heart & Bullitt East get ready to battle it out and for one to be crowned the Kentucky Girls’ State Basketball Champions. Bullitt East wins the opening tip, to go down the court and score their first points of the game. Both teams are playing hard defense not letting any shot or play go unnoticed to make sure they are either getting a shot or block each time they go down to the paint.

After the first 8 minutes of play Sacred Heart has pulled out early to a 10-point leader against Bullitt East, but that is not stopping East from working their way back into this game during the 2nd quarter they are using #24 Gracie Merkle to get in the paint, that is a trend we have been seeing all week from them as they have been using her to get under the basketball and earn those points in the paint. With 1:27 left to play before the half it is 19-34 Sacred Heart up in the game, we will see how this will play out before going into the locker room for halftime and what Bullitt East is able to do so they are able to cut into some of that lead Sacred Heart has on them. After halftime Bullitt East is looking to cut into Sacred Heart and be able to get dig their way back up, 2:50 left in the 3rd and East is down 14 points but now with under 2:00 minutes to go before we move into the last 8 minutes of regulation here in the Minuga Beef Jerky Girls’ Sweet 16 Bullitt East is able to cut it down to only a 9-point lead. It is going to be interesting to see what East is able to do after having so many fast breaks and cutting Sacred Heart’s lead down to only 9, however; Gracie Merkle of Bullitt East a player that has been able to get almost every rebound for them this week just received her 4th foul of the game causing them to sub her out with us still in the 3rd.

After an hour of games this week, all during the winter we now are in the last 8 minutes of Kentucky Girls Basketball for the 2022 Season with that said in now 6 minutes we will crown our 2022 KSHAA Girls High School Basketball State Champion. 4:28 left in the game and Bullitt East Girls are fighting as hard as they are able to from every angle of the floor to be able to get back into the game. This long-fought game has come to an end and Sacred Heart are your 2022 KSHAA Mingua Beef Jerk Girls’ Sweet 16 Champions! Both teams have gave it their all and left it all on the court not just tonight but this whole week and we should know that at the end of the day all these girls, coaches and staff gave everything in them to help these girls’ get to this stage, and the players used everything and like we have said all week at the end of all this each of them left it all out there on the court.
